General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) /grade 9 (Std 7).
Appropriate experience in the operating of a high-volume switchboard in a messaging and Public Address system (PA).

Appropriate knowledge and ability to operate a high-volume Switchboard equipment, a messaging and Public Address system effectively and efficiently.
Excellent listening skills and telephone etiquette.
Computer literacy in Microsoft Packages (Word, Excel and Outlook).
Physically able to hear and speak clearly.
Must be able to work shifts, night shifts, weekends and Public holidays.
Work overtime when required by operational needs.

Manage switchboard & Page staff over the intercom, efficient communication handling (both internally and externally) of incoming and outgoing calls and answer telephonic queries and deliver messages.
Handling of all telecommunication equipment and related tasks and ensuring that switchboard and telephone equipment is in working order and report all faults to supervisor/ relevant persons.
Maintain internal telephone directory.
Provide feedback on the operational running of the component and support supervisor by adhering to the Code of Conduct for the Public Service.
Monitor telephone accounts and keep record off all cellular, national and international calls made and distribute monthly to departments.

Candidates must comply with the advertised appointment requirements of the post by the closing date and time of the advert.
Candidates may be subjected to a competency test.

As directed by the Department of Public Service and Administration, applicants must note that further checks will be conducted once they are shortlisted and that their appointment is subject to positive outcomes on these checks, which include security clearance, qualification verification, criminal records and previous employment.
All shortlisted candidates, including SMS, shall undertake two pre-entry assessments.
One will be a practical exercise to determine the candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements, and the other will be an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment.
It will be expected of candidates to be conversant in at least two of the official languages (English/Afrikaans/Xhosa) of the Western Cape.
It will be expected of shortlisted candidates to be:
- available at the venue on the time and date as determined by the Department and
- bring along recently (not older than 6 months) certified copies of your Identity Document (ID), driver’s license (if applicable for the post), qualification and/or proof of registration at relevant statutory body etc. Failure to adhere to the aforementioned may lead to his/her application being disqualified and not further considered.

R201 093 per annum - R236 877 per annum Annual salary plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer's contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance).
