Purpose

  • The incumbent is responsible for technical support and facility maintenance within the eNtsa Testing Laboratory and associated facilities, as well as, technical project support.

Requirements
  • NH Diploma or BTech Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 3 years’ experience in working in a testing laboratory environment or similar facility with high end technology and equipment.
Skills & Competencies
  • Sound understanding of equipment maintenance, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting & repairs
  • Sound knowledge of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word Processing, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Laboratory development: Development of laboratory infrastructure and maintenance; Liaise with suppliers on installation and commissioning of new equipment; upgrading equipment and development of laboratory procedures and protocols.
  • Laboratory operations: Coordinating maintenance and project work in the eNtsa Testing Laboratory and associated facilities to ensure efficient use is made of infrastructure. Sourcing and stock control of consumables, spares and wear components. Responsible for laboratory induction new staff, trainees and researchers. Driving of company vehicles for collection / delivery of samples, consumables, and components is required on occasion.
  • Maintenance of relevant equipment / laboratory rooms: Inspection of equipment and performance of preventive maintenance and basic repairs. Ensure that equipment is properly maintained and calibrated correctly according to a well maintained and updated schedule. This includes daily, weekly, and intermittent equipment and facility cleaning, stripping, waste removal, repairs, servicing according to guidelines. Co-ordination of activities with cleaning and technical services department of the university. Handling, storing and disposal of chemicals (incl. special care chemicals i.e., toxic) and empty containers according to prescribed regulations.
  • Research: Assist with equipment utilization, sample handling, component testing, and fixture manufacture for research projects.
  • Supplier development and industry engagement: Assist with equipment utilization, sample handling, component testing, and fixture manufacture of supplier development and engagement projects. Project assistance may, on occasion include on-site sampling, equipment operation and general assistance, which require travel.
  • Quality, administration, and communication: Preparation of plans, schedules, and budget inputs. Prepare, complete and file documentation (including maintenance records, calibration certificates, record of training, manuals, and operational procedures) as per ISO 17025 Quality Management System and internal processes. Liaising with external partners, suppliers, and service providers. Liaising with other Departments and Entities on matters of common interest.
  • Safety and security: Ensuring that the laboratory’s services operate within Departmental, School, Faculty, and statutory guidelines. Maintaining standards of safety and security.
