Purpose

  • Christel House South Africa is seeking a High School Mathematics Teacher to strengthen Mathematics across Grades 8–12.
  • This role focuses on driving high-quality teaching, improved student performance, and a shift toward conceptual, high-level thinking in Mathematics.
  • The successful candidate will build a culture of accountability, resilience, and mathematical confidence, ensuring that all students are given the opportunity to succeed in a rigorous academic environment.

Requirements
  • A relevant university degree in Mathematics, Education, or related fields, with a focus on secondary education.
  • Teaching qualifications for High School Mathematics instruction.
  • Registration with SACE, upholding its professional standards and ethical guidelines.
  • A personal statement outlining their educational philosophy, specifically in relation to Mathematics teaching.
Skills & Competencies
  • A strong understanding of teaching learners from diverse and disadvantaged contexts is essential.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver a strong CAPS-aligned Mathematics curriculum for Grades 8 to 12.
  • Prepare learners for internal assessments, systemic assessments, and the NSC Mathematics examination.
  • Teach for conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and real-world application.
  • Develop learners’ higher-order thinking skills through challenging tasks, questioning, explanation, and reflection.
  • Use assessment data to identify gaps, track progress, and adjust teaching.
  • Support CHSA’s Mathematics achievement norms, including the expectation that learners work towards 50% and above.
  • Strengthen the Gr 8-12 Mathematics pathway and support the long-term aim of maximising Mathematics participation in Gr 12.
  • Support Leaners through Multi-tiered support systems, including gap identification, intervention, and progress monitoring.
  • Use student-centred learning approaches to promote learner participation, peer explanation, confidence, and metacognition.
  • Contribute to learner character, agency, mentoring, and whole-child development.
  • Participate in Student Life, school events, learner support roles, and wider school programs.
  • Engage in professional development, peer learning, coaching, and reflective teaching practice.
  • Integrate technology and AI responsibly to improve teaching, planning, feedback, intervention, and learner support.
