Purpose
- As the Tax Accountant, you will contribute significantly to enabling the Finance Team to achieve its business objectives by managing the operational tax, income tax and VAT aspects of the Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland (BLNS) subsidiaries in South Africa to ensure 100% compliance with revenue authorities.
Requirements
- Essential: Relevant Finance Degree
- Preferred: Articles completed
- 3-5 years' relevant experience
- Tax administration and compliance experience
- Understanding of tax legislation
- Experience in liaising with regulators on tax matters.
Skills & Competencies
Knowledge required:
- Excellent knowledge of Corporate and Indirect Tax legislation
- Knowledge of Accounting principals and practices.
Skills required:
- Sound numerical and analytical skills
- High levels of computer literacy
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Ability to work under pressure
- Attention to detail.
Preferred:
- Experience in retail and listed environments
Responsibilities
1. Income Tax Management
Tax Accounting (quarterly and at year-end):
- Compile tax calculations
- Prepare tax journals
- Prepare tax disclosure
Provisional and Income Tax:
- Calculate tax payments
- Prepare and submit returns (BLNS+Z)
Transfer pricing:
- Compile information for transfer pricing policy documents
- Dealing with income tax related queries / disputes / audits (internal and external)
2. Indirect Tax Management
VAT:
- Responsible for full VAT and customs function
- Advise business on correct VAT treatment for new products or business streams
- Review the current procedures for processing of invoices to highlight areas of potential VAT exposure
Customs:
- Completion of the IT14SD reconciliation for SARS
- Dealing with indirect tax related queries / disputes / audits (internal and external)
3. Stakeholder Management
- Build strong relationships with Financial Managers and their teams
- Build strong relationships with Pepkor Group Tax and other Tax Managers in the Group, ensuring alignment
- Effectively manage relationships with Revenue Authorities and in-country consultants
- Ensure current relationship with Pepkor subsidiaries are maintained and improved.
