Purpose

  • The Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) invites suitably qualified and experienced individuals to apply for the position Senior Public Education and Outreach Officer.
  • The incumbent reports to the Manager: Public Education and Outreach and is responsible for stakeholder management, communication, planning and facilitating public engagement initiatives that support and strengthen the work of the WCPP while enhancing parliamentary democracy.
  • WCPP has adopted a hybrid working model.
  • We therefore require individuals who are resilient and able to self-manage.

Requirements
  • A Bachelors degree or equivalent in social sciences, law, public administration/management, or governance.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience in facilitating educational or discussion workshops with external and/or internal stakeholders from planning stage, through execution phase and to reporting phase and in stakeholder management, communication, planning and facilitation of public engagement initiatives in the local/ public/ legislative sector.
  • Applicants should be proficient in at least two (2) of the official languages of the Western Cape.
  • Valid driving license minimum code B.

  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills
  • Excellent report writing and research skills.
  • Good planning and organising ability.
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to conceptualise programmes, material and the like.
  • Sound knowledge of the parliamentary environment.
  • Willingness to work long and/or irregular hours including weekends and public holidays.
  • Computer skills (MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams).
Responsibilities
  • Public education through workshops throughout the province.
  • Engagement of the WCPP with the public throughout the province.
  • Support the law-making process in terms of public hearings and oversight work of Committees.
  • Petitions education and support the administrative process.
  • Collaboration within the WCPP as well as with external stakeholders.
  • Research, develop and submit thematic topics for public engagement initiatives.
  • Conceptualise programmes that will translate the strategic objectives into outcomes.
  • Contribute to strategic, operational, and financial management.
  • Supervise staff and conduct performance reviews.
