Purpose

• Novus Media, publisher of Port Elizabeth Express and Novanews.co.za have internship opportunities in our Gqeberha office.
• We are a dynamic media house — publishing in print, digital and across social media platforms, and we are looking for passionate, driven, and digitally savvy individuals to join our team for a 12-month internship programme.

Requirements

• A degree, diploma or relevant qualification in Journalism, Media Studies, Communications, or a related field (or a final-year student who will have graduated by the start date).
• A valid Code 8 driver's licence — essential for fieldwork, community coverage and attending assignments independently.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong writing and communication skills in English (additional local languages are an advantage).
• Digitally savvy — confident across social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok and YouTube.
• Basic knowledge of or willingness to learn content management systems, digital tools and media production software.

Responsibilities

• Report on and write news stories across local, national and international topics.
• Produce content for our print editions, websites and social media platforms.
• Conduct interviews, attend press briefings and cover community events.
• Photograph and capture video content for digital and social platforms.
• Write headlines, captions and social media copy that drives engagement.
• Monitor breaking news and contribute to the daily news agenda.
• Build and grow your own journalism portfolio.
