Purpose

• A well-established and growing retail group is seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Regional Manager to oversee multiple SPAR stores across South Africa.
• This is a senior operational leadership role suited to a commercially driven retail professional with strong multi-site management experience, excellent people leadership skills, and a proven track record of driving performance across diverse store environments.

Requirements

• Matric (Grade 12) – Essential
• Minimum 10 years experience
• Proven experience as a Regional Manager / Area Manager / Multi-site Manager in retail or FMCG
• Solid commercial acumen with experience managing budgets and KPIs
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel extensively across South Africa
• Own reliable transport

Skills & Competencies

• Strong background in supermarket, grocery, or wholesale retail operations
• Demonstrated success managing multiple stores and improving performance
• Strong leadership and people development capability
• Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and retail reporting systems
• Ability to work retail hours, including alternate weekends and public holidays

Responsibilities

Operational Management

• Oversee operational performance across multiple SPAR retail and wholesale stores
• Ensure consistent execution of operational standards, compliance, and customer service excellence
• Drive sales growth, profitability, and achievement of regional KPIs
• Implement business strategies to improve efficiency, performance, and customer experience
• Support new store openings, revamps, and operational projects
• Travel regularly between stores across South Africa to ensure consistency and operational excellence

Sales & Performance Management

• Analyse sales figures, budgets, and performance reports to identify improvement opportunities
• Drive continuous improvement in store performance and operational execution
• Ensure achievement of regional targets across all stores
• Monitor and improve customer service standards and in-store experience

Financial & Stock Control

• Manage sales performance, gross profit (GP%), expense budgets, and net profitability across stores
• Oversee end-to-end inventory management, including ordering, stock levels, stock takes, shrinkage control, and waste reduction
• Monitor stock movement, identify inefficiencies, and implement corrective actions to improve availability and reduce losses

Staff Leadership & Operational Management

• Lead, coach, and develop staff members, including department managers and store leadership teams
• Ensure effective staffing levels across all departments, including rostering and leave planning aligned with operational requirements
• Conduct regular staff meetings, performance reviews, and disciplinary processes where necessary
• Drive a strong performance culture focused on accountability, service excellence, and operational discipline
• Ensure all staff comply with company policies, legal requirements, ethical standards, and operational procedures
• Support talent development, succession planning, and internal promotions within stores

Stakeholder & Supplier Management

• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, vendors, and internal stakeholders
• Collaborate with senior leadership to align operational execution with business strategy
• Support commercial negotiations and strategic supplier partnerships

Additional Information
