Purpose

Requirements
  • A Grade 12 Certificate/NQF Level as recognised by SAQA.
  • Training in public security environment will be added as advantage.
  • 1 year experience within a Security related field in public security law enforcement.
Skills & Competencies
  • Flexibility in working hours will be required to meet demands of the role.
  • May be required to work overtime.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular patrols and surveillance of assigned areas to detect and deter potential security threats and illegal activities.
  • Monitor and control access points, ensuring only authorised individuals are granted entry while maintaining a welcoming and secure environment.
  • Respond promptly to incidents, emergencies, and alarms, taking appropriate action to resolve situations and ensure the safety of individuals and property.
  • Enforce security protocols, rules, and regulations, ensuring compliance and taking corrective measures as necessary.
  • Maintain a high level of alertness and situational awareness to identify suspicious activities, behaviours, or items that could pose a threat to individuals or national security.
  • Conduct security screenings, including bag checks, metal detector operation, and other necessary measures to prevent unauthorised items from entering restricted areas.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and emergency services to coordinate responses and share information related to potential security risks.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of security protocols and measures to proactively mitigate security vulnerabilities.
  • Document and report all security incidents, accidents, or violations promptly and accurately, following established protocols.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports, including descriptions of events, individuals involved, actions taken, and any relevant evidence or witnesses.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs of security-related activities, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Provide timely and accurate information to supervisors, management, and law enforcement agencies as required.
  • Conduct general border management activities and security services to ensure effective and efficient border management.
  • Attend the on and off duty parades and be stationed as per deployment schedule of border guards.
  • Process proactive and responsive complaint attendance.
  • Report on arrested illegal foreigners held in the temporary holding cells.
  • Safeguard and control exhibits / evidence found to be handed over to other Agencies.
  • Gather information for compiled reports as required by higher authority.
  • Implement controls on the movement of goods and people in the identified ports and segments.
  • Search people, luggage and vehicles as per the relevant regulations on the planned roadblock / check point operations in the port of entry and the vulnerable areas in the borderline.
  • Perform borderline duties, traffic check point operations and other law enforcement duties at outer/inner perimeter areas.
  • Maintain surveillance from covert positions at or near the international borders.
  • Control the access/egress at the identified port of entry and in border law enforcement area.
  • Conduct vehicle/foot patrols around the inner perimeter.

  • Control and regulate illegal movement of people and goods.
  • Identify and report on international visitors, travellers and shoppers for monitoring purpose.
  • Preform immigration duties.
  • Preform any other duties as may be required by port from time to time.
  • Ensure compliance with national and international laws, regulations, and protocols related to border control and customs enforcement.
  • Review and update procedures and guidelines regularly to align with changing legal requirements and industry standards.
  • Analyse intelligence data, risk assessments, and threat reports to identify vulnerabilities, emerging trends, and areas of concern related to border security.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with intelligence agencies, international organisations, and industry stakeholders to facilitate information sharing and cooperation in combating illicit activities.
  • Represent and participate in the BMA’s committees and tasks teams as member of the executive team.
  • Take the lead in industry related forums, conferences and workshops to gain industry insight for the purpose of business improvement and position the BMA.
