Overview

The Quality Improvement (QI) Coach will join a dynamic team to optimize programme performance. A proactive approach to the coordination of QI-linked themes will enhance TB surveillance deliverables. The incumbent will provide mentoring, coaching, guidance and coordination of activities. There is a close working collaboration that includes QI advisors, QA/I managers plus core facility (DoH / THC)-based role- players. Please note that this is a contract position based on funding.

Responsibilities

Quality improvement (QI) in health care • Provide QI support to stakeholder teams • Analyse and interpret data to identify opportunities for improvement • Support and monitor quality improvement projects in stakeholder-based TB programme • Build a quality improvement environment with stakeholders • Analyse data for reporting and project design purposes • Provide technical assistance to stakeholder QI teams, by working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to identify gaps in service delivery and to identify and set improvement priorities • Coach all QI-linked staff to conduct interventions towards achieving the multi-facility QI project aims including: • Use data to identify bottlenecks and underlying causes • Develop, test and disseminate change ideas to close the gaps • Track data over time to draw periodic reports • Display QI activities and run charts at facility-level • Assist facilities to develop SOP’s for implementing successful change ideas • Maintain a current understanding of policy to optimise QI • Maintain records of all working procedures, provide input into development and implementation of new procedures and standards • Follow-up on the implementation of changes and comment on improvements, ensure continuous improvement • Guide stakeholders in the development, implementation and measuring of QI initiatives • Identify and report on QI successes • Support prescribed data tools to track progress within and across project facilities (TIER.net, Web-DHIS, THIS data) at facility or sub-district level • Ensure all facilities have accurate, current and relevant QI tools prominently displayed (e.g.: run charts) Mentoring • Work closely with the stakeholder to maintain QI activities across all facilities • Provide QI coaching as required, to transfer QI skills • Ensure continual self-development through constant review of current literature, initiatives and latest developments in the field • Conduct ongoing feed-back sessions with THC managers and employees • Effectively communicate and collaborate with a wide range of employees and managers Liaison with stakeholders • Liaise with internal and external role players and maintain a current understanding on all aspects of QI including policy and guidelines • Maintain a network of QI practitioners, specialists and working groups to remain current and ensure training is relevant and topical

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences or post-basic nursing education qualification • 2 years post-basic experience in QI methodology within the district health system • Experience in TB and HIV prevention and management • A proven track record in delivering QI methodology activities and successes • Proficiency in district health data management systems (i.e.TIER.net, Web-DHIS, THIS data) • Fluent in English and Afrikaans/ isiXhosa • Valid driver’s licence • Clear criminal record • Ability to travel in the Cape Metro region
