Stellenbosch University Receptionist and Switchboard Officer Bellville, Cape Town


  • Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences
  • School of Public Leadership - Bellville Park Campus


  • Grade 12 or a National Senior Certificate;
  • At least three years' experience as a switchboard operator, receptionist, or a similar position.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and / or isiXhosa or Afrikaans;
  • The ability to function in a multicultural environment;
  • The ability to plan, organise and execute various continuous and ad hoc administrative tasks;
  • Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams and other, similar platforms;
  • The ability to deliver a professional and friendly service under pressure;
  • Maintaining a positive attitude towards clients and colleagues.


  • Handling telephone calls and enquiries at reception;
  • Managing the switchboard in a professional manner;
  • Receiving clients and visitors in a professional manner;
  • Managing access control and monitoring the entrance;
  • Correctly referring visitors to appropriate members of staff or venues;
  • Receiving and dispatching goods to the appropriate person;
  • Providing administrative support to the School of Public Leadership's academic and administrative staff;
  • Acting as safety officer for the floor.

  • A post-matric certificate in administration or a relevant field;
  • Prior experience of the University's administrative systems;
  • The ability to communicate in a second language (isiXhosa or Afrikaans);
  • Health and Safety and/or First Aid training.
