Cape Peninsula University of Technology Student Counsellor Cape Town

Purpose

  • To provide a comprehensive range of services to registered CPUT students on the District Six campus or other, to assist students in making important life transitions, to provide mental health services, prevention services and student development.

Requirements

  • B degree in Social Work. A Master’s Degree will be preferred
  • Registration as a Social worker with the South African Council for Social Services Professions (SACSSP)
  • Five years relevant work experience as registered social worker
  • Recommendation: Experience in working with young adults from diverse backgrounds. Work with students at an institution of higher learning and preferably at a Student Counselling Centre, will be advantagous.

Responsibilities

  • Guidance / counselling to students regarding their personal welfare needs
  • Career Counselling to prospective students and CPUT students
  • Consulting, advocacy and learner support. Liaising with university stakeholders, referral sources, and advocating for student personal and welfare challenges.
  • Training and development: Development and implementation of outreach educational programs to students on campus and in residences
  • Promotion of student wellness services. Participating in orientation, awareness raising activities and other departmental activities.
  • Information dissemination to staff and students on university policies and procedures. Engages in research and distributes relevant information on student development and welfare.
  • Work in an integrated way with other internal departments in supporting students
  • Internal/External Liaison with stakeholders
  • Record keeping and administration
