Purpose
- To support the manufacturing site during continuous shift operations on all mechanical related issues, with the primary aim to maintain machine availability and improve up-time.
Requirements
- Grade 12
- Trade Tested Fitter / Fitter and Turner
- Working in a production environment
- 2 years post apprenticeship experience as a Fitter
- Experience working on heavy industrial / automated machines
- 3 years' experience within a large manufacturing environment
Skills & Competencies
- Understanding of OHSACT
- Knowledge of shut down maintenance
- Good understanding of factory utility layouts (i.e. electrical and water reticulation, compressed air systems, and process water plant).
- Knowledge of condition monitoring (i.e. electrical and water reticulation, compressed air systems, and process water plant)
- Welding, cutting and grinding experience
- Pneumatics, pumps, transmission systems and general mechanics
- Bearings and lubrication
- Self-driven and motivated
- Able to work under pressure
- Interpersonal skills (be able to to work in a team)
- Problem solving techniques
- Analytical skills
Responsibilities
- Responsible for attending to breakdown maintenance by responding timeously to breakdown requests to ensure production runs optimally and efficiently to meet targets.
- Identify, verify and analyse reasons for downtime through root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions to repair the fault in order to ensure timeous resumption of production.
- Ensure that inspections on running machinery and equipment are carried out in order to prevent unnecessary downtime.
- Ensure adherence to the maintenance schedule by carrying out preventative and scheduled maintenance so that the risk of unplanned downtime is minimised.
- Ensure adherence to all safety rules and regulations by all personnel and contractors on site to ensure a safe working environment and adherence to standards.
- Participate in problem solving workshops and process improvement discussions to support MDW.
- Responsible for participating effectively in MDW teams to support overall team and business objectives.
- Ensure effective communication of relevant information to all stakeholders to support decision making for the business.
