Data Analyst

TB HIV Care - Bhisho, Eastern Cape

Overview

The Data Analyst reports to the Data Scientist and supports the Provincial Department of Health on the 90-90-90 program for HIV and TB data management and analytics. The Data Analyst will work with large and complex data sets, analyzing data elements and health indicators, cleaning data, and optimizing ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) processes. This is a contract position based on funding.

Responsibilities

Data Analytics • Build models to analyze UNAIDS 90-90-90 performance • Analyse health data to inform decision making • Develop interactive dashboards according to stakeholder requirements • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends and patterns embedded within data sets using statistical techniques, with an aim to increase health service efficiency • Present information using data visualization techniques • Work with management to prioritize DoH health information and analytic needs Data Management • Maintain and monitor databases from primary or secondary data sources • Filter and “clean” data from computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems • Support the development and maintenance of a data warehouse • Optimize ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) processes Reporting • Support DoH with data analytics for routine and ad-hoc reports

Requirements

• A proven track record of working with data, data analysis, and data management • Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Power BI, Tableau, SQL server reporting services), databases (SQL, etc.), programming (Structured Query Language (SQL), XML, JavaScript, Python, ETL frameworks) and APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), • Knowledge of statistics and experience using quantitative research methods and statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, STATA, etc.) • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy • Competent report writing and comfortable presenting findings to forums and groups • Minimum of a Masters (MSc) in mathematics, economics, epidemiology, information management or statistics, or Bachelors degree with 5-7 years of relevant work experience. • Minimum of 3-5 years’ relevant work experience
